Ford Mustang: Customize. Share. Battle.

Now this is a pretty amazing piece of an enganging interactive idea within the “standard” set for a car manufacturer’s site.
Ford launched the Mustang Customizer. That part of a website that allows interests and enthusiasts to create their very own Mustang. It’s all as we know it from selecting colors, accessories and decals to complement the classic design.

The user can pick a Mustang V6, GT, Boss 302 or Shelby GT500.

And here comes the twist. Unlike usual customizers you are able to individualize your scene with three different backgrounds – a dragway, cityscape or drive-in restaurant – along with five different angles. Quite impressive are the hundreds of accessories to choose from, which is x times more than on avarage sites and customizers of other brands.

“Customers love to make Mustang their own, one that suits their taste; this is the perfect way to let them test out their design and imagine what’s possible,” said Jim Owens, Mustang marketing manager

Still, the most impressive part is the interactive gaming aspect of the customizer. The user can save the design as wallpaper, but also start a battle against other users’s designs. After having submitted the own design for the battle, two designs get randomly juxtaposed from which users can vote the cooler one. The integration of Social Media with Facebook makes it even possible to share the design and gather votes that will be tallied on a leaderboard for others to check out.
